CHRIST IS BAPTIZED IN THE JORDAN!

Today is the 31st Sunday after Pentecost.  Tone 6.  Postfeast of and Sunday after the Theophany of Christ.  Today we also commemorate St. Theodosius the Great.

TROPARIA (T. 6)—The Angelic Powers were at Thy tomb;/the guards became as dead men./Mary stood by Thy grave,/seeking Thy most pure body./Thou didst capture hell not being tempted by it./Thou didst come to the Virgin, granting life./O Lord, Who didst rise from the dead, glory to Thee.

(Theophany, T. 1)—When Thou, O Lord, wast baptized in the Jordan,/ the worship of the Trinity was made manifest;/ for the voice of the Father bore witness to Thee/ and called Thee His beloved Son,/ and the Spirit in the form of a dove/ confirmed the Truth of His Word.  O Christ, our God Who hast revealed Thyself,/ and hast enlightened the world, glory to Thee!
(St. Theodosius, T. 8)—By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile,/ and your longing for God brought forth fruits in abundance./ By your radiance of miracles you illumined he whole universe.  Our Father Theodosius, pay to Christ God to save our souls..

KONTAKION (T. 6)—When Christ God, the Giver of Life,/ raised all of the dead from the valleys of misery with His mighty hand,/ He bestowed resurrection on the human race./ He is the Savior of all, the Resurrection, the Life, and the God of all.

Glory…
(St. Theodosius, T. 8)—Planted in the courts of the Lord, you blossomed beautifully with virtue,/ and increased your children in the desert, showering them with streams of your tears,/ O chief shepherd of the divine flock of God./ Therefore we cry to you, “Rejoice, O Father Theodosius!”

Now and ever…
(Theophany, T. 4)—Today Thou hast appeared to the universe/ and Thy Light, O Lord, has shone upon us/ who with understanding praise Thee./ Thou hast come and revealed Thyself./ O Light Unapproachable.

PROKEIMENON, (Theohpany, T. 1, Ps. 32)—Let Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us/ as we have set our hope on Thee.
Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the just.
(St. Theodosius, T. 7, Ps. 115)—Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

(St. Theodosius, T. 7, Ps. 115)--

EPISTLE: Ephesians 4:7-13; II Corinthians 4:6-15

ALLELUIA (Theophany, T. 5, Ps. 88)—I will sing of Thy mercies forever,; with my mouth I will proclaim Thy truth from generation to generation.
For Thou hast said:/ “Mercy will be established forever; Thy truth will be prepared in eh heavens.
(St. Theodosius, T. 6, Ps. 111)—Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments.

GOSPEL:  Matthew 4:12-17; Matthew 11:27-30

IN PLACE OF “IT IS TRULY MEET”—Magnify, O my soul, the most pure Virgin Theotokos, more honorable than the heavenly hosts.  No tongue is capable of praising you worthily.  The angelic mind is over-awed in exalting you, O Theotokos.  But accept our faith, since you are gracious and know our divine love.  You are the Protectress of Christians, and we praise you!

KOINONIKON, (Pss. 148 & 111)—Praise the Lord from the heavens.  Praise Him in the highest.  The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance; he shall not fear evil tidings.  Alleluia.

We welcome guests and visitors to St. Catherine’s this morning and we thank God that you are able to be with us!  Please join us in the parish hall following Liturgy and the Thanksgiving prayers for refreshments and fellowship, and please sign the guest book in the rear of church—please include your email address or other contact information.  We pray God brings you to us again soon and often!

Next instruction class is scheduled for the new group Saturday, 1/3, at 4:30 PM.

Holy water is now available for your use in the home and Fr. Dennis is available for house blessings afterwards—make your appointment with him.

Parish Council meets today at 1 PM.  Our annual parish meeting will take place Sunday, January 18, following Liturgy and a covered dish luncheon.  There will be parish council elections, budgeting, reports, discussion and a by-law change which has been posted on the bulletin board in the hall.  We encourage all to attend and take part in discussion; to vote you must be an Orthodox adult (18 and older), taking part in the life of the parish for at least 6 months, and contributing to the financial support of the parish in some identifiable way (we suggest the pledge—see below); to run for parish council, in the parish for 1 year, for a parish officer (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer), 2 years.

Wall calendars for 2026 are available in the rear of church and in the hall. A donation is appreciated.

The Brotherhood and the Church School are conducting an aluminum can drive.  Bring your aluminum cans to the recycling cart downstairs.  Also, remove the pull tabs from the cans and put them in the cup on the coffee stand in the hall.

Thanks to Salcutans for church cleaning this week.  Jon Metcalf is up for next week.  Thanks to the Salcutans for prosphora this week.  We need volunteers for church cleaning and we may need to restart the baking rotation.  Also, thanks to Karen Hovsepian for repairing the lock to the office door, and to the Shealys for the donation of new Christmas service booklets.

Pledge cards for support of St. Catherine’s in 2026 are available in the read of church and in the hall.  The weekly operation of the parish is supported by your free-will offerings, and pledging is the best way for us to budget for the coming year.  This is to include your regular contributions towards the operation of St. Catherine’s; it does not include candle money, or special appeals or special donations.  Those who pledged last year should renew their pledge for this year—we are not taking you for granted!  Thanks to those who have already pledged!
