Today is the 21st Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 4. Today we commemorate the Martyrs Akindynos, Pegasios, Aphthonios, Elpidephoros and Anempodistos in Persia.
TROPARIA (T. 4)—When the women disciples of the Lord learned from the angel/ the joyous message of Thy Resurrection,/ they cast away the ancestral curse/ and elatedly told the apostles:/ “Death is overthrown!/ Christ our God is risen,/ granting the world great mercy!”
(St. Catherine, T. 5)—Let us sing the praise of the renowned Bride of Christ, Catherine, the divine protectress of Sinai, our help and our succor; for she has brilliantly silenced the refinements of the impious by the power of the Spirit; and since she has been crowned as a witness of the Lord, she craves for all the great mercy.
(Martyrs T. 2)—Blessed is the earth that received your blood, passion-bearers of the Lord,/ and holy is the dwelling place which recovered your spirits./ You triumphed over the enemy in the stadium/ and you preched Christ with boldness. Since HE is good, we pray that you beseech Him to save our souls.)--
KONTAKIA, (T. 4)—My Savior and Redeemer as God/ rose from the tomb and delivered the earth-born from their chains./ He has shattered the gates of hell/ and as Master,/ He has risen on the third day.
(St. Catherine, T. 2)—Let all of us who love to honor the martyrs/ form a great choir in praise of the most-wise Catherine;/ for she preached Christ and trampled the serpent,/ despising the knowledge of the orators.
Glory…
(Martyrs, T. 2)—Thou hast received into the enjoyment of Thy goodness and repose, O only Good One,/ the pious and God-bearing martyrs who abandoned all earthly things:/ Akindynos, Pegasios and Anempodistos,/ together with Aphthonios and Elpidephoros.
Now and ever…
(Theotokos, T. 6)—Steadfast Protectress of Christians, constant advocate before the Creator, do not despise the cries of us sinners; but in your goodness come speedily to help us who call on you in faith. Hasten to hear our petitions and to intercede for us, O Theotokos, for you always protect those who honor you.
PROKEIMENON (T. 4, Ps. 1-3)—O Lord, how manifold are Thy works;/ in Wisdom hast Thou made them all!
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord, my God, Thou art very great.
EPISTLE: Galatians 2:16-20
ALLELUIA (T. 4, Ps. 44)—Go forth and prosper and reign because of truth, meekness and righteousness.
You love righteousness and hate iniquity

You may have heard of the severe storms that recently hit western Alaska with devastating. A couple villages which have our parishes were completely washed away. The churches and the home of the priest who serves them both are gone. Parish Council will address this and apply something from our treasury soon, I’m sure. Meanwhile, you can contribute to relief for Alaska via our charities box on the candle stand in the rear of church. The contents of that by the end of the month will go to Alaskan relief. You can learn more on oca.org, the website of the Orthodox Church in America. Meanwhile, we will keep both the living and newly departed of Alaska in our prayers here.
Watch for information on our stewardship and details of pledge program coming out soon.
Among the departed we remember in our prayers the son of our former parishioner, Lena Browne, David; Fr. Paul Harrilchak of Holy Trinity Church, Ashburn, VA; the mother of Emmet Hoyt, Darryl; Kate White; the father of John Outen, also John; Marian Lutai; Christian Lutai; the mother of Michael Wasiljov, Linda; the mother of Liviu Achim, Ileana; Larisa Bulgakova’s son-in-law, Sergei; those who have perished in war, persecution and terrorism in the Middle East, Ukraine, here and throughout the world, and from storms, flood, fire, earthquake, and disease here, especially in Alaska, and elsewhere. May their memory be eternal!
