Lenten:  W., 7 PM—Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts

Today is the 1st Sunday of Great Lent.  Tone 2.  The Triumph of Orthodoxy.  Today we also commemorate the Martyr Eudoxia of Heliopolis.

Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, from p. 123 in the black Liturgy books in the pews.

TROPARIA, (T. 5)—Let us, the Faithful, praise and worship the Word,/ co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit,/ born for our salvation from the Virgin;/ for He willed to be lifted upon the cross in the flesh/ to endure death/ and to raise the dead/ by His glorious Resurrection.
(Triodion, T. 2)—We venerate Thy most pure image, O Good One,/ and ask forgiveness of our transgressions, O Christ God./ Of Thy good will, Thou wast pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh/ and deliver Thy people from bondage to the enemy./ Therefore with thankfulness we cry aloud to Thee:/ “Thou hast filled all with joy, O our Savior,/ for Thou didst come to save the world”

KONTAKION, (Triodion, T. 8)—No one could describe the Word of the Father, but when He took flesh from you, O Theotokos, He accepted to be described,/ and restored the fallen image to its former state by uniting it with divine beauty./ We confess and proclaim our salvation in words and images

PROKEIMENON, (Triodion, T. 4 Dan. 3)—Blessed art Thou, O God of our fathers/ and praised and glorified is Thy Name forever.
For Thou art just in all that Thou has done for us.

EPISTLE: Hebrews 11:24-26, 32-12:2

ALLELUIA (Triodion, T. 4, Ps. 98)—Moses and Aaron were among His priests; Samuel was also among those who called on His Name.
They called to the Lord and He answered them.

GOSPEL:  John 1:43-51

INSTEAD OF “IT IS TRULY MEET”—All of creation rejoices in you,/ O Full of Grace,/ the assembly of the angels and the race of men!/ O sanctified Temple and spiritual Paradise,/ the glory of virgins,/ from whom God was incarnate and became a Child,/ our God before the ages,/ He made your body into a throne/ and your womb He made more spacious than the heavens./ All of creation rejoices in you!/ O Full of Grace, glory to you!

Wednesday, 2/25, 7 PM—Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts followed by a Lenten meal and religious discussion.  Presanctified will be offered most Wednesdays in Lent with the dinner and discussion following.

Confessions are heard after Vespers on Saturday night, before and after Lenten services, or by appointment.  This Saturday, Fr. Dennis will lead the preparatory penitential prayers and an examination of conscience following Vespers with the reading of Psalms during confessions.  We project doing this seasonally; i.e., in conjunction with the fasting seasons.

Today, the first Sunday in Lent, Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers in the DC area will be offered at Sts. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Potomac.  Speaking will be Fr. Patrick Viscuso.  There is a flier posted about this on the bulletin board in the hall.

Also posted on the bulletin board is the Lenten message of Metropolitan Tikhon, our diocesan bishop.  You may also see this on the website of the Orthodox Church in America, www.oca.org.

Instruction class is scheduled for the newly-formed group Saturday, 2/21, at 4:30 PM. until it is time to prepare for Vespers, about 6.

Holy water has been blessed and is available from the font for your use at home.

Grab one of the baby bottles in the hall to fill up with your contributions to the Hagerstown Area Pregnancy Center, which we have supported in various ways over the years.

The Brotherhood and the Church School aluminum can drive continues.  Please deposit aluminum cans in the cart downstairs and pull tabs in the cup on the coffee stand in the hall.  NB—the cart is full.  We need to make a delivery!

Thanks to James Firestein for church cleaning this week.  Olivos are up for next week, Thanks to Ina Salcutan and Andrew Podolak for prosphora.  We need volunteers for church cleaning and we may need to restart both the coffee hour clean-up and the baking rotation.

Pledge cards for support of St. Catherine’s in 2026 are available in the read of church and in the hall.  The weekly operation of the parish is supported by your free-will offerings, and pledging is the best way for us to budget for the coming year.  This is to include your regular contributions towards the operation of St. Catherine’s; it does not include candle money, or special appeals or special donations.  Thanks to those who have pledged!
