Today is the 9th Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 8. Today we commemorate the Translation of the relics of the Protomartyr Stephen from Jerusalem to Constantinople.
TROPARIA (T. 8)-- Thou didst descend from on high, O Merciful One./ Thou didst accept the three-day burial to free us from our sufferings./ O Lord, our Life and Resurrection, glory to Thee!
(St. Catherine, T. 5)—Let us sing the praise of the renowned Bride of Christ, Catherine, the divine protectress of Sinai, our help and our succor; for she has brilliantly silenced the refinements of the impious by the power of the Spirit; and since she has been crowned as a witness of the Lord, she craves for all the great mercy.
(St. Stephen, T. 4)—Your relics have risen from the depths of the earth/ like a treasury for the immortal life of all creation./ The Church, rejoicing in the grace she receives from them,/ dutifully honors you, O Protomartyr Stephen./ Preserve us from error and heresy by your intercession!

We are in the Fast in preparation for the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God until that feast, August 15.
Thursday, 8/6, is the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Vespers Wednesday is at 7:30 PM; Divine Liturgy is at 10 AM. After Liturgy, we will bless the first fruits and vegetables from your gardens that you bring. NB: after Liturgy on the feast of the Dormition, 8/15, we bless the flowers from your gardens.
Next instruction class is Saturday, 8/8, group 2, at 4:30 PM. Also Saturday following Vespers we will offer the preparatory prayers for confession with an examination of conscience and reading of Psalms during private confessions.
Parish Council meets next Sunday at 1 PM.
St. Vladimir’s Seminary is offering an online course on the Church’s hymns of Lent and Holy Week. Parish Council decided to pay for a parish registration; we’d ask for a $50 fee from participants with a minimum participation of 5 people. If the $50 would be a problem, let us know and we could waive the $50. If interested, let Fr. Dennis or Jon Metcalf know ASAP.
Thanks to Shealys for church cleaning this week. Connors are up for next week. We need volunteers for church cleaning and prosphora baking.
Parish Council is producing a new edition of the parish Directory. We have partial information about most of the families regularly attending except our most recent arrivals. We need your help in producing something both for a print directory and also so Fr. Dennis can have all the information he needs for pastoral reasons about all of our families. Please take a file card, fill it out and return it. Here’s the information we would like: names of adults, street address, city, state, Zip code, phone numbers, email addresses, names of children living at home. We understand these days you may not want all of this information disseminated—please indicate on the card what information you don’t mind being included in such a directory—only that will be included. Thank for your help, and thanks to those who have already filled out a card.
Boonesboro Days approaches—our major fund-raiser each year where we serve gyros, baklava and other Greek and Eastern European goodies. We need everyone from the parish to be successful. An updated sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the hall and has been sent out on our email list. Pick a suitable task, and a good time for you and sign on! Newcomers—this is a great way to get acquainted with your brothers and sisters at St. Catherine’s!
Among the departed we remember The grandfather of Alex Gary, Raul; June Aleshin, Marina Ploscaru; the mother of Emmet Hoyt, Darryl; the father of John Outen, also John; those who have perished in war, persecution and terrorism in the Middle East, Ukraine, here and throughout the world, and from storms, flood, fire, earthquake, and disease here and elsewhere. May their memory be eternal!
