Father John Mason Completes 20 Years of Service to St. Catherine
Father John Mason ended 20 years of “behind the iconostasis” work at St. Catherine Orthodx Church on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Fr. John, a “cradle” Orthodox, is a graduate of St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary. Fr. John was a builder of churches. He oversaw the construction of a new church in Meriden, Connecticut. After that, he spearheaded the construction of a rather imposing church in Akron/Mogadore, Ohio. Other places of service before he came to Hagerstown included Robins, Ohio; Altoona, Pennsylvania; Yonkers, New York; and finally, Holy Trinity in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He was Dean of the Ohio Deanery of the Orthodox Church in America from 1971 until 1983. He was a member of the Diocesan Council of the Midwest Diocese for six years. He was a member of the Pension Board from 1976 until 1999.
